The Beautiful city of Gubbio

Never been there before, never heard of it, but really worth a visit. Build onto the mountain in several terraces, overlooking the surrounding area, it's just magnificent view. When visited at nighttime, for a stroll after dinner, it's like walking through an Italian film set.

Secret Agriturismo

The town of Gubbio is our next stop. Haven't able to find an agriturismo we decide to take a drive through the area to see what we might stubble upon. And we luck out! Unfortunately we can't remember the name of the fantastic agriturismo anymore. A small sign in between the sunflowers leads us there, and there at the end of a small road it is: the secret agriturismo. Six small rooms in little houses, A swimmingpool, a pond for fishing, loads of fruit trees, all Italian people, little kittens running around...like a small oasis. Next morning we have to drive through, but we hope to visit this lovely place again in the future.

La Casa delle Rose di Maria

After two night at Castelnuevo del Garda we decide to drive through to the area of Arezzo. We've been here two years ago and would really love to visit the beautiful town again (and see if the beautiful ring at the antiquarian, which unfortunately wasn't so) We stay the night in a little village in the hills outside the city at la casa delle rose di Maria. The agriturismo is adorable, Maria embroidered every pillow slope, towel or sheet. Maria herself: adorable as well. She knows we understand very, very little Italian: doesn't stop her from talking Italian nonstop :) Breakfast is at Maria's own dining table. While she entertains out little one, we enjoy all her home made jams, pies and breads.
We try to book an extra night, unfortunately not possible. Maria is already booked for the following night.

Agriturismo ca'Vecia

After the touristy business at Lago di Garda, we searched for a more quiet place to say in the mountains surrounding the lake and found agriturismo ca'vecia. A lovely host who makes you feel welcome, a garden for the guests to use, dog friendly, no tourists but Italian. SO lovely we decides to stay an extra night. Didn't even go out for dinner, just went to the local supermarket for some grilled fish, veg, bread and wine. Ate it at one of their outside tables, with a view at the surrounding vineyards.

Punta san Vigilio

Supposedly one of Lady Di's favorite places for a holiday. The super deluxe hotel was a bit out of our budget, but anyone can drink a coffee at the little restaurant at the sea. Beautiful view at the lake, wonderful homemade cookie with the coffee, so also ordered the home made raspberry pie, hmmmmmm.

Lago di Garda: San Vigilio

We usually go to Lago di Como in the fall, so Lago di Garda in the high season...we had to get used to it...a LOT of tourist and way to much Duchies. Was hard to find any Italian speaking person walking around. Nevertheless we found a very nice restaurant at the very end of the boulevard. Had some Campari Soda with a beautiful view at the lake and then ate some fish caught at the lake that very day. Yum. Ristorante Vittoria is definitely one to visit when in San Vigilio. And then get the F out of there if you want to enjoy Italian life.

Landhotel Hirsch Kempten

In search for a place to stay on your way to, for example, Italy: Landhotel Hirsch is a good choice. Arrives end of the day, put our stuff in the room and went down for a bit plate of spaghetti with scampi, not the Italian but the German way. Lot of cream, lot of pasta, good meal after a day on the road. Next morning breakfast with fresh strawberries in yogurt and lots of other stuff. A nice stroll through the meadows surrounding Kempten and your ready to hit hte road again.

Patisserie Kuyt

The absolute best confectioner in town. Always hard to choose and if I go myself I always come back with a whole variety of small cakes, for I really can't choose at Kuyt. This cake was a present from my friend Ben as a desert for my home cooked meal. I'm not even sure what it is, but it was delicious for sure. Some kind of breezy (?) foam on top with cinnamon and cherry inside. hmmm. (still would choose a different cake next time for the have so much to taste and it's all delicious!)

REM eiland

After weeks of trying to make a reservation at brand new REM eiland for twelve people, we decided to book 2 tables of 6 and succeeded immediately. On a Friday night. Only climbing the stairs is an adventure on itself. Of course there is the elevator, bur why take it if you can enjoy the view (and the Dutch summer breeze aka storm) The welcome is warm and luckily they're nit irritated with our reservation trick, bur give us two tables next to each other.

The choice is limited to four different courses, which I see as a benefit. I go for the mackerel salad as a starter, with fennel, courgette, black olives and chorizo. Everything on itself is very nice, but

Frozz

When in Berlin, we were already wondering why Amsterdam didn't have the fantastic frozen yogurt with fresh topping concept yet. Weren't the only one with the thought: a couple of weeks later and they're all over town: Frozz. Hmmmmm

Frozen yogurt with strawberries and white chocolate curls
